Microbial culture, genetic engineering and routine molecular-biology workflows to build and modify microbial strains.

BSL-2 containment

A Biosafety Level 2 lab, so work that needs containment can be done safely and to standard.

Fermentation & scale-up

Bioreactor-based fermentation to take validated strains from flask to scale.

Also available through our wider campus facilities: animal cell culture, an insect greenhouse and a chemistry lab.

Multi-mode plate reader

Absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence reads for growth, reporter and activity assays at scale.

Real-time PCR (qPCR)

Quantitative PCR for nucleic-acid quantification and expression readouts.
